Steak au poivre is one of the great French bistro classics, and this is our version made for your own dinner table.

We start with premium skirt steak, marinated overnight to deepen its natural flavor and tenderness, then seared for a caramelized crust and cooked to a juicy medium-rare. It is finished with a house-made cognac peppercorn sauce, built from scratch with cracked pepper and a splash of cognac for a bold, creamy finish that pairs perfectly with the beef. On the side, queso au gratin potatoes are layered with melted cheese and baked until golden and bubbling, alongside tender sautéed broccoli for a complete, balanced plate.

Microwave: Remove sleeve, lift the corner of film, place on microwave plate, microwave for 2 minutes or until hot, cut film away from corner edge with knife, and remove. Let stand for 2 minutes. Based on a 1100 watt microwave oven. DO NOT LIFT TRAY, LIFT ON MICROWAVABLE PLATE

Oven: Remove sleeve, cut film away from corner edge with knife, and remove. Place on oven sheet pan. Heat on 350 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes until hot. Heat to 165 degrees. Remove tray on pan DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LIFT TRAY BY ITSELF. LIFT TRAY ON MICROWAVABLE PLATE OR OVEN SAFE PAN. USE HOT PADS TO REMOVE.

The vegetables were pretty mushy, and the steak was on the dry side. The flavor was good.

This was a very good meal. The steak was excellent as well as the sauce, and I always love broccoli! The au gratin potatoes were too. The only reason for 4 stars is because it seemed a bit too salty for me. I’m not sure which of the above made it seem salty to me, but I try to avoid too much sodium in my meals, and that’s why I always check the ingredients/nutrition for every meal I order. Having said that, I might try this one again in the future.
